Our robotics world has a new guest. Guest’s name was neato XV-11, a commercial robot that will help you in doing homework. This robot is a robotic vacuum cleaner that will clean your entire floor, stairs and the corners of your home. Do you interested to have it ..?

Neato Robotics, a maker of robots that are smart enough to perform household chores as intelligently and efficiently as a human, has stated that its newly unveiled Neato XV-11 is an all-floor smart, robot vacuum cleaner that makes use of Room Positioning System (RPS) Technology to map the entire floor space while cleaning and avoid most of the solid obstacles that other robots can detect only by impact.
The company claims that by making use of advanced technologies their team of engineers has made a smarter robot that can clean floors thoroughly in lesser time. Efficient cleaning means more power is saved which is redirected to run the robot’ powerful jet vacuum engine that can pick all types of debris. The Neato XV-11 is designed to meticulously clean floors on a daily basis; ensuring owners enjoy neater, healthier homes and more free time for themselves.
The following is information about the Roomba, known as Robotic FloorVac.
![]()
The Roomba is an autonomous robotic vacuum cleaner made and sold by iRobot. Under normal operating conditions, it is able to navigate a living space and its obstacles while vacuuming the floor. The Roomba was introduced in 2002; as of January 2008[update], over 2.5 million units have been sold. Several updates and new models have since been released that allow the Roomba to better negotiate obstacles and optimize cleaning.
The unit is a disc, 13.4 inches (34 cm) in diameter and less than 3.5 inches (9 cm) high. A large contact-sensing bumper is mounted on the front half of the unit, with an infrared sensor at its top front center. A carrying handle is fitted on the top of the unit. Depending on the model, it may come with between one and three “Virtual Wall” infrared transmitter units.
Hello all, I just read a news today about robot which have ability to open the door on the way. Intel Microprocessor used to be robot’s “brain”, laser scanner and video camera are used to be the robot’s “eyes”. I think it is good achivement in robotics. How about you..?
========================
Willow Garage, a Silicon Valley robotics research group, said that its experimental PR2 robot, which has wheels and can travel at speeds up to a mile and a quarter per hour, was able to open and pass through 10 doors and plug itself into 10 standard wall sockets in less than an hour. In a different test, the same robot completed a marathon in the company’s office, traveling 26.2 miles. PR2 will not compete with humans yet; it took more than four days.
TED – In this prophetic talk from 2003, roboticist Rodney Brooks talks about how robots are going to work their way into our lives — starting with toys and moving into household chores … and beyond.
Rodney Brooks builds robots based on biological principles of movement and reasoning. In other words, instead of one giant HAL brain, he might build a swarm of small robots that use trial-and-error to develop intelligence. And it works.
MIT professor Rodney Brooks studies and engineers robot intelligence, looking for the holy grail of robotics: the AGI, or artificial general intelligence. For decades, we’ve been building robots to do highly specific tasks — welding, riveting, delivering interoffice mail — but what we all want, really, is a robot that can figure things out on their own, the way we humans do. (And being able to move around independently would be handy too.)
Overview
Mobile robots have the capability to move around in their environment and are not fixed to one physical location. In contrast, industrial robots usually consist of a jointed arm (multi-linked manipulator) and gripper assembly (or end effector) that is attached to a fixed surface.

Mobile robots are the focus of a great deal of current research and almost every major university has one or more labs that focus on mobile robot research. Mobile robots are also found in industry, military and security environments. They also appear as consumer products, for entertainment or to perform certain tasks like vacuum cleaning or mowing.
