In the next few years in prison in South Korean patrol officers will be replaced with robot guards. Head of Asian Forum of correctional institutions Lee Baik chul said that this is one of the simplest tasks, which already can be trusted with machine. The robot will doing patrols at night, while the guards can focus on more important tasks.
The Robot Prison Guards will monitor prisoners behavior, independently found signs of suicidal behavior or evidence of beatings. Of course, the guards did not lose control over the territory entrusted, just the most “striking” incident they will be notified in advance.
All data from the robot guards will be displayed on a single control center, and work in real time with two-way communication. This robot has a built-in speaker and microphone, which means that guards control center can communicate with the prisoners, this will solve many problems without personal contact, saving time and effort on both sides. The machine has a height of about 150 cm and weight 70-80 kg. The first to be built just three copies of this robot, they will be placed in jail in Pohang, the test will take about a month, and they start around March next year. At the end of the experiment the state Department of Justice will decide on future projects.
